Faculty Position

Head, Department of Dermatology and Skin Science

The Faculty of Medicine at The University of British Columbia invites applications for the position of Head, Department of Dermatology and Skin Science.  This appointment is for a five (5) year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review and is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the Faculty. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2017 or upon a date to be mutually agreed.

The Department Head is critical to achieving the goals of the Faculty of Medicine Strategic Plan. Faculty members who take on this role have the opportunity to make a direct contribution to the success of their Department, Faculty and the University. They provide the administrative, intellectual, social, and academic management and leadership of the Department, as well as continuing to advance its programs and activities.

The Head of the Department of Dermatology will report to the Dean of Medicine and through the Dean is accountable to the University Board of Governors. The incumbent will provide strategic, effective leadership and manage and recruit faculty members to plan sustainable future development of the Department. He or she will support educational programs as appropriate including determining curricular components, assignment of teaching duties, and monitoring the delivery thereof at all sites to ensure education programs meet accreditation standards. The Department head will maintain, strengthen, and promote research and partnerships with Health Authorities, Centres and Institutes, and other Departments.

The successful candidate should hold a PhD and/or MD degree or equivalent with a proven record of scholarly achievement in research, with demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate, graduate and post graduate education.
